What is Global Compass?

A friendly first step for Canadian immigration. Global Compass Individual helps people see which ways to Canada could fit them; Global Compass Corporate helps employers hire, transfer and keep people from abroad. Both turn your answers into a preliminary assessment that a lawyer reviews.

Is this legal advice?

Not on its own. Your preliminary assessment is based only on your answers and on rules our lawyers approve, but it isn’t a full legal opinion, and there’s no lawyer and client relationship unless you sign a written agreement. For advice on your situation, you can ask for a consultation.

Who checks the assessments?

Our lawyers approve the rules every assessment is built on. When your answers raise anything unusual, such as a close deadline, a past refusal or a judgment call, a lawyer reviews the assessment before it’s released. The free preview is automatic and says so.

How much does it cost?

Starting is free. For individuals, a Preliminary Assessment is $50 and an Annual Engagement, with up to four check-ins a year, is $400. Consultation fees, and fees for employers, are explained upfront before you commit to anything.

How up to date is the information?

Our rules come from official Government of Canada and provincial sources, and we monitor those pages for changes. When a page changes, a lawyer reviews the rules that depend on it. Every report shows the date the rules were checked.

Are the people in your stories real?

No. They are illustrative characters based on common situations, and their outcomes are examples, not promises. The rules their stories mention are real and come from official sources.

Can you guarantee I’ll get in?

No one honestly can. We’ll tell you what looks promising, what’s missing and what could make your case stronger, but only the government decides.

Where is my information kept?

On servers in Canada. It’s used to prepare your assessment. The Global Compass lawyer who reviews your assessment sees your answers, and they’re shared with anyone else, such as another professional for a consultation, only with your consent. If you answer by voice, your browser’s own speech service turns it into text and may process it outside Canada.
