Where listings come from

A marketplace is only as trustworthy as its sources. Here are the ones we use or plan to use, the rules we follow for each, and how to have a listing removed.

As of today, Jobs shows signals from two open government datasets; no listings are published yet.

Our rules

Six things that are always true of a listing here

  1. We use sources that permit it: authorized feeds, open government data, and listings their owners register with us. We do not copy job boards, school websites or brokers’ sites.
  2. Every public listing links to its original, shows when it was posted and when we last saw it, and expires when the source withdraws it.
  3. A listing’s label (public, registered or verified) says where it came from and what we checked. Verified never means recommended.
  4. We never infer from an ordinary posting that an employer, school or seller supports immigration. If a listing says so, it says so because its owner told us.
  5. Anyone can report a listing. The owner of a listing, or of the source it came from, can have it removed by asking.
  6. Nothing about you goes to a provider unless you ask for an introduction and accept it. Candidates are never charged for an introduction.
The sources

Where each kind of listing will come from

Public accessibility does not make copying lawful, so each source is used only on its own terms.

Job Bank postings advertised each month (Employment and Social Development Canada)

In use: open government data

Each month the department publishes every posting advertised on Job Bank, with the occupation, place, pay, hours and terms, but no employer name and no link. We read it on a schedule and show it as a demand-and-wage signal by occupation and province, never as a live listing, and we link to Job Bank’s own search for the postings themselves.

Positive LMIA employers (Employment and Social Development Canada)

In use: open government data

Each quarter the department publishes the employers that received a positive labour market impact assessment, by occupation and location, as open data. We show it as a signal (employers approved to hire foreign workers in an occupation and province in a recent quarter), never as a vacancy, and with the department’s own caveats: the list excludes employers named after a person, and an approval is not a work permit or a hire.

Job Bank’s feed of live postings (Government of Canada)

Feed for job boards, by application

Job Bank offers job boards a feed of employer postings under conditions, including free access for job seekers and a link back to each posting. Global Compass will show live Job Bank postings only through that feed, under those conditions.

Designated learning institutions and PGWP fields of study (IRCC)

Official lists

IRCC publishes the designated learning institutions, the institutions whose programs can lead to a post-graduation work permit, and the fields of study that qualify. We show these beside every program, with a link to IRCC’s page and the date we checked it. Our source monitor already watches both pages for changes.

Employers, institutions, owners and brokers who register with us

Registered listings

Organizations enter their own roles, programs and businesses on Global Compass, say what they offer, and keep them current. Listings are labelled as registered, and verified only after the checks described on each one.

Listings our team enters by hand

Curated, with the source recorded

A small number of listings our team enters from a source that permits it, each with the source, the permission and the date it was checked, so you can see exactly where it came from.

Freshness, removal and reports

How a listing stays honest after it is published

Fresh or gone

Public listings show when we last saw them at the source and disappear when the source withdraws them. Registered listings carry an expiry their owner renews.

Report a listing

Every listing will have a report button. Reports go to our team, who can pause or remove a listing while they look into it.

Removal on request

The owner of a listing, or of the source it came from, can have it removed by contacting us. We act on removal requests promptly and say so.
